Whether you're a seasoned swing dancer looking to add something new to your repertoire,
an experienced dancer in a different style of dance, or are brand new to dancing altogether,
Providence Swings is sure to have a class that will suit you! We offer progressive weekly
classes on Tuesday and Thursday evenings in East Coast Swing, Lindy Hop, Charleston, and
Balboa. Classes focus on technique and connection as well as moves. We rotate partners
frequently throughout our classes, so whether you come alone, with a partner, or with a
friend, you will have the opportunity to dance with a variety of people throughout the lesson.

Prices and RegistrationAll classes start at 7:00pm and are 1h15min long. If paid in full at the first lesson: Students who register and pay for an entire class series and miss 2 or more classes will be allowed a refund (upon request) of $5 ($2.50 students/low income/repeaters) for any missed classes. Refund requests must be made within 30 days of the completion of the class series. |

Charleston B This class expands on the Charleston movements taught in Charleston A. New moves will be added to your repertoire with an emphasis on lead & follow and musicality. Previous Charleston experience is required. No partner necessary. (Note: Charleston A is a prerequisite for Charleston B; this requirement may be waived at the discretion of the instructors.) |

Beginning Swing A Learn the fundamentals of 6-count swing. This is where you should begin if you have no previous knowledge of swing dancing, or if you would like to review the basics of 6-count swing. No experience required. No partner necessary. |
February |
Beginning Swing B Expand upon the fundamentals of 6-count swing learned in Beginning Swing A. Some additional moves and techniques will be shown as well as a focus on proper footwork and styling. No partner necessary. (Note: participants who have not taken Beginning Swing A will not be allowed to join after the first week without the permission of the instructors.) |

Charleston A Starting with the basic 8-count step, this dynamic and energetic class series will explore the fundamentals of the granddaddy of the swing dances, and will also teach you how to incorporate it into your East Coast Swing or Lindy Hop. Previous swing dance experience is helpful, but not essential. No partner necessary. |

Charleston B This class expands on the Charleston movements taught in Charleston A. New moves will be added to your repertoire with an emphasis on lead & follow and musicality. Balboa Basics A Learn many of the Balboa basics of this quick, close partnered dance that developed on the crowded dance floors in 1930s California. Previous experience with basic frame and connection is helpful. No partner necessary. |

Beginning Lindy Hop A Learn the fundamentals of 8-count Lindy Hop, including the swingout, the lindy circle, and basic turns. Previous experience with 6-count swing is helpful, but not required. No partner necessary. |
February |
Beginning Lindy Hop B Expand upon the basics learned in Beginning Lindy Hop A. Additional 6- and 8-count moves will be added to make your dancing more dynamic. Focus will be on connection and lead & follow awareness. Knowledge of basic Lindy Hop is required. No partner necessary. (Note: Beginning Lindy Hop A is a prerequisite for Beginning Lindy Hop B; this requirement may be waived at the discretion of the instructors.) |

Beginning Lindy Hop C Continue to expand upon the basics learned in Beginning Lindy Hop A & B. Emphasis will be on getting the kinks out, connection, and lead/follow nuances. Previous Lindy Hop experience is required. No partner necessary. (Note: Beginning Lindy Hop B is a prerequisite for Beginning Lindy Hop C; this requirement may be waived at the discretion of the instructors.) |

Musicality Feel like you’re just doing move after move and not really “dancing” to the music? This class will focus on ideas and techniques of musicality. You’ll get new ways to think about the music, break up those old patterns that you’re tired of doing, and get new ones to connect to the music and your partner. Come to class ready to play! Previous Lindy Hop experience required. No partner necessary. |

Balboa Basics B This class expands on the foundation laid in Balboa Basics A. More pure Balboa and Bal-Swing moves will be added and emphasis will be on lead & follow as well as posture and connection. Previous Balboa experience is required. No partner necessary. Choreography This class will expose you to new moves, styling, and technique all while learning an entertaining routine. Performing at the end of the series is optional, but encouraged. Solid knowledge of Lindy Hop and basic Charleston required. No partner necessary. |

Intermediate Balboa So you've taken some basic Balboa but don't yet feel as though you have enough of a vocabulary to dance a whole song in pure Balboa and Bal-swing? Then it's time to learn more! This class will increase your repertoire of moves and styling variations as well as focus on the aspects of lead-follow in this beautiful and subtle dance. Previous Balboa experience required. No partner necessary. |

Charleston C Can't get enough Charleston? Neither can we! This class will build on the material taught in Charleston A & B by introducing new moves and variations as well as focusing on both technique and musicality. Previous experience in both side-by-side and tandem Charleston required. No partner necessary. |
